It is a great honor and very humbling to perform along side these incredible masters. I am deeply grateful to them for time and frienship.
I scheduled a little studio time when I learned that Ignacio and his trio were going to be touring through the area. This was an old school, unrehearsed blowing session and yet the performances are so organic and each tune tells a little story.
Ignacio Berroa has been recognized as one of the greatest drummers of our time. A leading innovator in the blending of Afro-Cuban and American jazz styles, his artful drumming has supported a wide spectrum of the very top names in jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Charlie Haden, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba.
Martin Bejerano has performed at nearly all of the major jazz festivals, clubs and concert halls around the world with the likes of the Christian McBride Band, Dave Holland, Pat Metheny, Ron Carter, Ignacio Berroa, Lonnie Plaxico, Bryan Lynch, Adam Nussbaum, Roy Hargrove, Arturo Sandoval to name a few. Currently, Martin heads the jazz piano department at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.
Rick Van Matre was a key figure in my development as a young jazz student. As the former director of Jazz Studies at CCM, he created the program that has gained international recognition. He is known for performing both as a classical and jazz saxophone soloist around the world.
Josh Allen is the bassist with the Igancio Berroa trio and can be heard on their album "Straight Ahead from Havana". He has also performed with Randy Brecker, Gary Campbell, Ed Calle, Leon Foster Thomas, and many others. He also tours and records with Negroni’s Trio, appearing on their Latin Grammy-Nominated album On the Way.
